WISE Women of Blair County

The WISE Women of Blair County Board of Directors is pleased to announce our guest speaker for our 2023 Annual Meeting, Erin Murphy.

Erin Murphy is the author or editor of thirteen books, most recently Human Resources (forthcoming from Salmon Poetry of Ireland); Taxonomies (2022); Assisted Living (2018); and Bodies of Truth: Personal Narratives on Illness, Disability, and Medicine, winner of the 2019 Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Award. She is Professor of English and creative writing at Penn State Altoona and serves as Poetry Editor of The Summerset Review.
​She has received the Athleen J. Stere Teaching Award, the Grace D. Long Faculty Excellence Award, and the University-wide Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching. For 2023-25, she has been named the inaugural Big Ten Mellon Academic Leadership Fellow and will represent Penn State University on a national level.
​In April 2022 she was named the first Poet Laureate of Blair County, Pennsylvania, where she is an inductee in the Blair County Arts Hall of Fame and a recipient of the 2010 WISE Women Tribute Award in Arts and Letters. She and her husband live in Hollidaysburg and have four children.

WISE Women of Blair County funds between 3 to 5 projects each cycle that serve Blair County residents. These programs include workshops and educational events, training sessions, and/or direct service projects targeted toward empowering women and eliminating racism.
