WISE Women of Blair County TRIBUTE Annual Dinner Re-scheduled!

Due to the uncertainty of the Coronavirus, the WISE Women Board of Directors has postponed the Annual WISE Women Tribute dinner to April 21, 2021 at The Casino in Lakemont at 6pm. We will be honoring women chosen for the previously scheduled 2020 Tribute Dinner. Please contact us at [email protected] or by phone at 814-822-0332 with any questions. SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR SPRING SEMESTER

NEWS RELEASE

WISE Women of Blair County is pleased to announce that they are seeking applications for scholarship assistance. One or more scholarships will be awarded up to a total of $10,000. Deadline for applications is no later than 4 pm on Friday, September 25, 2020. These completed applications must be received by email or US Postal mail to WISE Women at our address of P. O. Box 134, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648 or you may submit your application to our email address of [email protected].

Scholarships will be available to Blair County resident females 21 years of age or older who have overcome adversity or discrimination in their lives and who are pursuing post-secondary education. The scholarship is not available for a Masters, Doctorate or a second Bachelor’s degree.

WISE Women of Blair County (WISE stands for Women Involved in Scholarship and Empowerment) has granted $20,000 in scholarships each year for women to continue their education. The mission of the organization is to empower women and to eliminate racism through collaboration, service, and education. The mission is fulfilled by providing scholarships, awarding grants, and recognizing outstanding women in our community through the annual Tribute dinner.

Due to the COVID-19 virus and the current Commonwealth’s quarantine, the WISE Women Board of Directors has rescheduled the Annual WISE Women Tribute dinner to September 16, 2020 at The Casino of Lakemont at 6pm. WISE Women of Blair County Award 2020 Grants to 3 Local Non-Profits!!

WISE Women of Blair County awarded $6,670.00 in grant monies to three worthy organizations on January 15, 2020. Funded for the 2020 grant cycle were: Family Services Inc., the Altoona Area School District Adult Education Program and the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library.

Family Services Inc. was represented by Lisa Hahn, the Executive Director. They requested funding for their Family Services Program to assist in securing documentation for safety, security, learn life skills and self-empowerment as well as their Domestic Abuse Project/Crime Victim Support program to help empower victims to live independently and help with various fees and expenses for securing their independence.

The Altoona Area School District Adult Education program was represented by Tina Swineford. They received a grant for obtaining birth certificates, GED fees and other documents to help adults earn their GED diploma and start on their journey for self reliance.

The Hollidaysburg Area Public Library was represented by Janet Eldred, Chief Librarian and Melanie Ramsey, Children’s Librarian. They received funding for a new summer program to help educate young children about eliminating racism. The WISE grant will help buy books and materials that will be at the library for future generations of children.

WISE Women of Blair County annually makes available grant funding for organizations who meet the funding criteria. The next grant applications are due in October 2020. For more information on the grants and the organization, please check our website at wisewomenofblaircounty.org.

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD OPEN TO PUBLIC NOMINATION

WISE Women of Blair County Tribute recognizes and honors Blair County women who have demonstrated excellence and leadership in promoting the awareness of the significant role of women in the quality of life in our community and its economic growth. WISE Women is seeking nominations from the public for the first time for the Lifetime Achievement honor. We are looking for a woman who demonstrates during her lifetime our mission “to empower women and to help eliminate racism through collaboration, service and education”. The selection of the Lifetime Achievement honoree will be chosen by the WISE Board of Directors. We are asking for nominations to be submitted by January 10, 2020 at 4p.m.

Our annual Tribute dinner will take place on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at 6:00pm at the Casino at Lakemont Park.

Anyone- an individual, organization or a business may submit nominations to WISE Women, P.O. Box 134, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648, or by the preferred method of electronic submission to [email protected]. Nomination forms may be located on the WISE Women website, www.wisewomenofblaircounty.org . Nominations must be submitted by Friday, January 10, 2020 by 4pm.
